Waterproof plywood in Nepal: BWR vs BWP explained

“Waterproof” is the most misused word in plywood. Here is what each grade can and cannot take.

Waterproof plywood in Nepal: BWR vs BWP explained

Kitchens, bathrooms and balconies are where plywood is tested hardest. Many buyers ask for “waterproof plywood” — but plywood grades describe very different levels of water performance.

MR plywood is not waterproof

MR grade is moisture resistant: it handles humid air in bedrooms and living rooms, but it is not made for liquid water. Do not use it under sinks or in bathrooms.

BWR: water resistant, for kitchens

BWR (Boiling Water Resistant) plywood takes splashes, steam and regular cleaning. It is the right choice for kitchen carcasses and utility rooms.

BWP: the waterproof grade

BWP (Boiling Water Proof) plywood is bonded with phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin, the most water-proof adhesive used in plywood. Use it for sink units, vanities, bathroom joinery, balconies and exterior furniture. Duro PF Ply is our BWP grade.

Protect the edges

Even the best waterproof plywood performs better with sealed edges. Edge-band visible edges and seal cut-outs around sinks and taps.
