How to protect wooden furniture from termites in Nepal

Termites and wood-boring insects are a real risk in the Terai and humid valleys. Here is how to keep them out of your furniture.

How to protect wooden furniture from termites in Nepal

Termites cause more damage to wooden furniture in Nepal than almost anything else, especially in the warm, humid Terai and during the monsoon. Prevention starts with the material you choose and continues with how it is installed.

Start with treated panels

Choose plywood and block board that is chemically treated against termites and wood-boring insects at the factory. Treatment that goes through the panel protects far better than a surface coat applied later. Duro MR Grade Ply, PF / BWP Ply, Block Board and Shuttering Ply are treated against termites and insects, and Duro flush doors are protected with permanent preservatives.

Keep wood away from damp walls and floors

Termites follow moisture. Leave a small gap between furniture and damp walls, raise kitchen and bathroom units on legs or a sealed plinth, and fix leaks quickly.

Seal cut edges

Edge-band visible edges and seal hidden cut edges. Sealed edges keep out moisture — and make the panel less attractive to insects.

Check regularly

Look for mud tubes on walls, small holes, fine powder or hollow-sounding wood, especially behind wardrobes and under sinks. If you find termites, call a pest-control professional early; the sooner they are treated, the less damage they do.
